It seems that Castlevania will be seeing an outing on Android and iPhone sometime this year, this time from Konami. Let’s just hope it sees release outside of Japan.

Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls certainly has 2D side scrolling action going for it. Many have commented on the YouTube video that this doesn’t have that “Castlevania” look – which, sure, as detailed as the graphics are, you are bound to lose some of the feel. It just happens that way for some reason.

Judging from the video there will be helpers of some sort that follow the main character. There are also only a few enemies on screen at once, while the 8-bit Castlevania games had this too, it is more noticeable here for some reason.

What is the gameplay video below seems to be the first level only as it is played through with Simon Belmont, Alucard, and Charlotte. Not a lot to go on but still, the point is clear. Lots of physics defying action coming.

According to our friends over at Droid Gamers, Castlevania Grimoire of Souls was announced in a recent earnings report. For the hardcore Castlevania fan, this is probably one that will be safe to skip. I just don’t see this being a huge deal in the overall Castlevania franchise and with that said, I have this feeling we will not see this in North America.

I am not going to go on the standard “Konami doesn’t care” rant that most people go on at this point. I am just stating how I feel about Castlevania Grimoire of Souls. It just doesn’t scream “leaving Japan.” I don’t see Konami spending all that much effort on being interested in bringing this over.

I could be wrong and would love to see that I am as cool action games are rare in the mobile market.
